Qualifications for Election to Office 2010
Filing begins February 8, 2010 at 12:00 noon and ends February 26, 2010 at 12:00 noon, unless otherwise noted.
US Senator
6 years – Richard Burr’s seat
- 30 Years of Age
- 9 Years – citizen of the United States
- Resident of the State for which he/she will be elected
- Qualified voter of the State
- 90 day member of his/her party preceding the filing date
- Term of Office: 6 years – no limit
US Representative
8th Congressional – 2 years – Larry Kissell’s seat 12th Congressional – 2 years – Mel Watt’s seat
- 25 Years of Age
- 7 years – citizen of the United States
- Qualified voter of the State
- Resident of the state for which he/she will be elected
- 90 day member of his/her party preceding filing date
- Term of Office: 2 years – no limit
NC State Senator
36th Senatorial District – 2 years – Fletcher Hartsell’s seat
- 25 Years of Age
- Qualified voter of the State
- 2 years citizen of the State
- 1 year residency in district immediately preceding his/her election
- 90 day member of his/her party preceding filing date
- Term of Office: 2 years
NC State Representative
82nd House District – 2 years – Jeff Barnhart’s seat 83rd House District – 2 years – Linda Johnson’s seat
- 21 Years of Age
- Qualified voter of the State
